The Challenge:

One glaring area that required attention was how we handled empty states. It was evident that we needed a consistent and user-friendly approach. The challenge was twofold - to create a design pattern that not only adhered to industry standards but also seamlessly integrated with our Galaxy Design System.

Research and Discovery:

My journey began with extensive research, scouring the internet for best practices, and studying how leading designers approached empty states in their designs. I examined various applications and websites to understand the diverse ways empty states were denoted and their impact on user engagement.

Apart from an internet search, I also deep-dived into our projects and all various centres to find out how designers are currently showcasing the empty state.

Collaboration with an Illustrator:

Recognizing the importance of visual storytelling, I collaborated closely with our design system illustrator. Together, we brought life to our empty states through captivating and informative illustrations that conveyed context and purpose. These illustrations would later become an integral part of our design pattern.
